We spent four or five days in Mackinaw City, one day was spent on Mackinac Island. We woke up early and headed to the harbor to purchase our tickets for the ferry - which is the only way to get onto the island. We bought tickets for both the ferry and the horse carriage tour. When we arrived on the island, the first thing that you notice is that there are bikes everywhere. We continued on to get on the carriage for the tour. Once we were situated on the carriage we began our ride, we saw the Grand Hotel and Fort Mackinac. We learned that the only motorized vehicles on the island is a police car, an ambulance, and a firetruck - oh, and snowmobiles for the winter. Most of the people that work on the island, only do so for the summer months, because there is not a lot going on during the rest of the year. The fort was a really cool stopping point and we spent a lot of our time there. My mom and brother stayed there, while dad and I decided to bike the outside perimeter of the island - a total of 8 miles. It was a really scenic route - that was traveled right next to the lake. After we rode around the island, we returned our bikes and met up with my mom and brother and went out to eat at Seabiscuit Cafe. We walked around the shops and then headed back to the ferry.
